Polish exhibition at the National Library   

 

An exhibition from the 4th to the 27th September 2006 was held at the National Library of Singapore, 100, Victoria Street, Level 9, Promenade, Singapore 188064. The exhibition had showcase the various Polish art pieces in commemoration of the United Nations 60th anniversary last year. UNAS collaborated with the Polish Embassy on this exhibition. Public lecture - The Future of the UN by Mr. Shashi Tharoor 

 

The Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS), in association with the United Nations Association of Singapore (UNAS) and the Asian Media Information and Communication    Centre (AMIC), conducted a series of talks by formally declared candidates contesting for    the post of the Secretary-General of the United Nations. 

 

The first of these talks was delivered by Mr Shashi Tharoor, currently Under-  Secretary-General, UN on 27th July 2006. To Find out more >>>

UNA- Sweden Water Project Exhibition 2006

Reference to the World Championship in Cooperation event for children and youth to commemorate "Uniting Water Ceremony - Water From All Countries in the World", 28 May - 6 June in Stockholm, Sweden, UNAS contributed the following two images of two sisters playing with water and a bottle of Singapore water.

 

The underlying theme for our Singapore entry is that water seems plentiful and easily accessible in our daily urban lives but is in fact a precious and scarce resource (we have to buy water from other neighbouring countries). Recently, technology advances in reverse-osmosis may provide an additional source to which Singapore obtains its water supply. To Find out more >>>


UNAS Seminar 2006

The United Nations Association of Singapore (UNAS) hosted a one-day seminar on Saturday, 13th May 2006 at The Regional Language Centre (RELC), Orange Grove Road.
 
The theme for this year’s seminar is : “The United Nations and The Emerging New World Order”. The seminar highlighted the changing power structure of the world consequent on the emergence of potentially powerful states and groups of states. To Find out more >>>
 

INVITATION TO WORLD WAR TWO: THE EURASIAN STORY EXHIBITION

The Eurasian Association is holding an exhibition titled WORLD WAR II : The Eurasian Story at the Eurasian Community House in Ceylon Road. The exhibition, which will be officially opened by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong , will run for three months, starting 13 February 2006. To Find out more >>>

2nd WFUNA Asia and Pacific Regional Model UN Conference held on the 9th to 12th February 2006 in New Delhi. The Conference convenes by the World Federation of United Nations Association (WFUNA), hosted by The Indian Federation of United Nations Associations (IFUNA).

The conference will simulate the UN Economic and Social Commission of the Asia and Pacific (ESCAP) and focus on the Millennium Development Goals.

NTU Model UN 2006 held on the 4th and 5th February 2006

 

At this Model UN, there were TWO councils in session – the SECURITY COUNCIL and the HISTORIC SECURITY COUNCIL. In the Security Council, delegates will take on the world’s most important issue – Nuclear Proliferation. On the other hand, in the Historic Security Council delegates were given the opportunity to debate and deliberate on the Yom Kippur War of 1973.

 

38 teams from three Singapore Universities – NTU, NUS and SMU, Top Junior Colleges and Polytechnics participated. To Find out more >>>


UNAS Board Retreat 2006

On 7-8 January 2006, the UNAS Board of Directors and student representatives were in Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia, for the UNAS Retreat. This was a time when the challenges faced by each sub-committee were discussed and activities planned for this year. To Find out more >>>
