UNITED NATIONS ASSOCIATION OF SINGAPORE - SILK AIR PARTNERSHIP: TO JOINTLY ASSIST COUNTRIES AFFECTED BY THE ASIAN TIDAL WAVE DISASTER
Members of the United Nations Association of Singapore (UNAS) jointly with SilkAir, wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to our friends in Asia for the tragic loss and unprecedented suffering brought to millions of family members and friends affected by the Asian Tidal Wave disaster on the 26th of December 2004.
UNAS has partnered with SilkAir to collect funds on board SilkAir flights, to assist, in the immediate relief and the subsequent recovery of the countries affected by the disaster.
The funds collected will be channeled to assist the United Nations and its Agencies in their relief efforts, in meeting both the immediate needs and subsequent reconstruction programs.
Our permit to raise funds No 34/2004 was granted by the Commissioner of Charities. The collection permit L/HH/000003/2005 was granted by the Singapore Police.
The collections on board of Silk Air flights will begin on the 4th of Jan 2005. All contributions by cheques should be crossed and made payable to 'United Nations Association of Singapore '.
"In the last few days, we have seen many organizations in Singapore and around the world providing humanitarian assistance to the victims of this calamity. It is difficult to describe the feelings in our hearts when we see the scenes of this tragedy," said Mr Mike Barclay, Chief Executive, SilkAir.
"The survivors are struggling to rebuild their lives, with the predicament that they are now in and their tragedy has stirred the feeling of compassion in many of us. The donation drive, on board SilkAir flights with the partnership of the United Nations Association of Singapore, will enable us to assist the many people out there, who need help. Our part in helping is small but every little bit can make a difference in rebuilding the lives of our neighbours, ” he added.
